I was initially attracted to NLP as it is a well respected consultancy which offered a graduate training programme appropriate to my development needs. When I had my interview at NLP I was impressed by the relaxed atmosphere. I felt NLP cared about whether I would fit in within the company as much as they cared about my qualifications and this made me feel valued as an individual right from the first interview.

Since starting work in September 2010 I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of jobs from pure planning projects to economic and law and policy work, and this has involved me taking on considerable responsibility from the outset. As part of my role I act as Information Officer, providing up to date information to other members of staff on a daily basis, and assisting in the drafting of our regular Planning Law Updates. This provides me with exposure to the intricacies of law and policy at an early stage in my career and has helped me to gain a much greater understanding of the planning system.

Although it is undeniable that everybody at NLP works hard, NLP strikes a good work/life balance providing lots of social opportunities within the company. Since working at NLP I have played in a RTPI football tournament, attended Christmas parties and various RTPI and other social events.

NLP is a great place to work, providing training opportunities and career development in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. I would definitely recommend NLP to other graduates looking to start their career in planning.
