The Vale of Glamorgan's planning committee have voted unanimously to resolve to grant permission for an outline application which will see the redevelopment of Barry Waterfront.
The £230m scheme represents one of the largest regeneration projects in Wales and will deliver up to 2,000 dwellings, retail and office floorspace, a hotel, school, high quality public realm and a vital new road link between the town centre and Barry Island.
NLP has worked with housebuilders Persimmon, Barratt and Taylor Wimpey on the regeneration of Barry since 2007 and submitted the outline planning application in August 2009. However, due to numerous issues with the site, particularly in relation to scheme viability, negotiations with the Council became protracted.
NLP were successful in negotiating a reduced S106 agreement with affordable housing at half the usual policy level and a significant number of other contributions deferred pending later reviews of scheme viability.
