For Peat's Sake - Test Case

October 24, 2011

NLP Company Chairman Dr Malcolm Hockaday is to give lead evidence on a national test case appeal seeking to stop the production of peat in a major site in Greater Manchester. The Government's Peat Working Party and the draft NPPF both target a full transfer from peat towards non-peat products for domestic and commercial markets. The two week inquiry will be in March 2012.

Sustainability objectives through the retention of carbon sinks in British peat reserves need to be supported if there are to be market incentives to increase the use of non-peat products.  The Minister has recently recovered the appeal decision in view of the importance of this case.
