Housing Inquiry in Cardiff Closes

August 30, 2011

The long running saga of Western Power Distribution seeking to build 324 houses within a 60 acre surplus open storage reservoir at Llanishen in the Cardiff suburbs is closer to a conclusion.

NLP’s Chairman, Malcolm Hockaday, has given evidence for Cardiff County Council in three major inquiries over six years, supporting opposition by local residents.  Malcolm gave evidence on heritage issues, landscape and amenity issues and general planning matters.

Successively revised schemes have twice been dismissed by the Welsh Government. The most recent scheme reflects the recent listing of the embankment structure and the recent draindown of the reservoir ‘for maintenance purposes’.

Hopefully the Welsh Government will continue to reject this scheme in the heart of one of Cardiff’s strategic open space corridors.

The appeal decision is not expected until mid-2012.
