Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council has published its NLP-authored 2011 Retail and Leisure Study, as part of the Evidence Base informing its Local Development Framework. The Study assesses the vitality and viability of the principal retail centres, Newcastle and Kidsgrove, and considers the need for revisions to boundary designations, local impact tests and impact thresholds. Based upon new empirical research, NLP considered the scope for new convenience and comparison retail and leisure floorspace across the Borough and the potential for new retail floorspace to be accommodated in Newcastle and Kidsgrove Town Centres.
NLP is delighted to have delivered a key component of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Evidence Base. It is important for the Council to have strong town centre planning guidance in place, and the NLP Study provides the basis for ensuring the continued vitality and viability of Newcastle and Kidsgrove, their position in the sub-regional retail hierarchy and the contribution the centres make to sustainable shopping patterns.
