BBC Broadcasting House, London

NLP prepared and negotiated applications for planning, listed building and conservation area consent for the redevelopment of the BBC’s W1 site to create Europe’s largest news broadcast centre. This development which is now completed, forms an extension to the Grade II* listed Broadcasting House, the home and corporate headquarters to the BBC since the 1930s. This state of the art broadcasting and production centre will accommodate three core BBC divisions – BBC Radio & Music, BBC News and BBC World Service following occupation in 2012.

NLP’s role included the preparation of a Heritage Study, with architects MacCormac Jamieson Prichard, to assess the impact of the new development on the surrounding historic environment, which includes the Grade II* Broadcasting House, the Grade I listed All Souls Church and the Harley Street Conservation Area.

Following the grant of the original permissions in 2002 NLP continued to advise both the BBC and their contractors and in doing so have secured numerous additional planning and listed building consents for alterations to the original building design, new works such as telecommunications equipment and external art works. A Stopping-Up Order for Langham Street was also secured. The building was completed in November 2010 and is presently undergoing fit out.
