NLP was appointed to undertake a joint Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) and Employment Land Review (ELR) for Lewes District Council.
The joint study responded to Planning Policy Statement (PPS4) which advocated the integration of these parts of the LDF evidence base and enabled NLP to adopt a co-ordinated approach to planning for employment and housing needs.
The SHLAA assessed 150 sites, undertaking comprehensive site surveys to identify the deliverability and developability of each site, whilst the ELR assessed the requirements for additional workspace across the District taking account of different economic forecasts. GIS and database technology was applied to record and map the sites.
Particular issues considered by NLP in the joint study included the planned new South Downs National Park and the implications of the growth of the Gatwick area and surrounding coastal districts.
