NLP has been involved with the NGP project for over 20 years from inception to implementation, initially securing the site’s removal from the Newcastle Green Belt. NLP provided expert evidence at the Newcastle Unitary Development Plan (UDP) Inquiry, securing the site’s allocation for economic development, housing and open space.
Subsequently, NLP secured outline planning permission for 2,500 homes, 80 hectares of land for employment use, together with a local centre. Assisting the NGP project team with implementation, NLP has secured reserved matters approvals for various residential and economic developments including the national headquarters for Sage PLC, together with a first school and neighbourhood centre.
Working with Newcastle City Council, NLP secured planning permission for a new health and leisure quarter as part of the wider development. Within the health quarter, NLP demonstrated a new 80 bed privately operated hospital and associated clinic space accorded with both prevailing planning and health policies and that the site represented the most appropriate location to meet the defined need.
