NLP was appointed by Total Recycling Management (TRM) to obtain planning permission for the change of use of an industrial unit in North Tyneside from a builder’s merchant to a recycling waste transfer station. A Certificate of Lawful Use had previously been refused for a similar use and the application had generated significant public concern.

NLP undertook negotiations with the Local Planning Authority to address the concerns expressed by local residents and advised the client on the need for amendments to the layout of the site to reduce the impact of the operation on its neighbours.

NLP subsequently prepared a planning application with an accompanying statement which outlined the history of the site and the merits of the proposals, NLP also advised on a Community Consultation Strategy.

As a result of NLP’s input, despite ongoing public opposition, the application was recommended for approval by the case officer and subsequently approved by the Planning Committee.
